Women’s Health – Is ageing a treatable disease?
If you are looking for a possible life changing experience, as well as, something interesting to read over Christmas, then I suggest you read ‘Lifespan’ by David Sinclair.
I am half way through the book and wanted to share this with you. Viewing ageing as a treatable disease is a really interesting concept, especially the idea that you maintain good health until the end.
So how is this possible and do I have any experience in this? Well about 10 years ago Alecia Taryn, the CEO at Sistapedia.com introduced me to High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT); basically, you do some exercise activity flat out for say 30 seconds and then idle for say 90 seconds and then repeat, typically you do this for 10 – 15 minutes and it provides the equivalent of an hour+ workout. Over the years I have increased the duration to 40 minutes. In my case the results are good blood test results, normal blood pressure, good sleep and a good life.
What does the science say? The book Lifespan equates HIIT to an anti-ageing treatment which has been tested and confirmed through experiments; additionally, a documentary series by the late Dr Michael Mosley showed the reversal of conditions leading to type 2 diabetes, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, through 10-minute HIIT sessions over a 10-week period. This is a remarkable and drug free outcome.
In his book ‘Lifespan’ Dr David Sinclair also provides insights into a number of available supplements that mimic the outcomes of HIIT. He also provides examples where women’s fertility is increased as well as general health, through the use of these supplements. A key finding from his research is that we are all individuals and that broad brush treatments are not the future and can be harmful. Through genome sequencing we can determine what is good and what is not good for our individual health.
Imagine in the very near future, if not right now, you are monitoring your personal health with your smart watch and this gives you alerts to any anomalies for which you can seek medical advice. Additionally, at a restaurant or when shopping you only select foods beneficial to your personal health and future longevity.
The icing on the cake here is that the common diseases we see in ageing, such as heart disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes, Alzheimer’s / dementia etc can be avoided altogether!
It should come as no surprise to any of us that overall good health is critical to good reproductive health in both men and women. The other bonus here is that the anti-ageing effects of HIIT and HIIT inducing supplements is that healthy age can be extended to possibly 115 years. Now that is good Christmas news.
